12/22/2023 0 Comments Vagrant story remake 2017Normally you can sort of remember them by heart. I did not like having to keep scanning every single enemy at the start of every encounter. It should be once an enemy is scanned, if you face them again later their stats will show automatically. Then go through all that again, choose another weapon, to attack another target. I absolutely hated that I had to go through multiple menu screens just to swap a weapon. Like what Zodiac Age did to FF12.Ī weapon wheel selection using the analog sticks will be a godsend. A remaster with quality of life features added will do wonders. Pretty sure the cost analysis for a Vagrant Story remake would be to a niche audience and therefore not financially a good choice.Ī remaster is possible, but you would get a sloppy upscale and emulation like other games Squenix has "remastered"ĭisagree on a remake. No matter how good a project is, if it does not earn a worthwhile profit it is a failure. Video games are a business first, not an art. Which means it would not be anything like the original. So if they made a re-make of Vagrant Story it would be nearly an entirely new game. The only thing salvageable would be Matsuno-san's story. Some masochists' rather liked the specific "change equipment for every encounter" mechanic but even they had to admit that the menu system was painful. Most people I've heard get through the game were over the combat well before the end. The combat would also have to be completely reworked as it is tedious to the point of wearisome. Remaking the game would remove the reason for all of these work arounds and throw the whole style/look and pacing/story of the game off. This forced the team to get super creative which, for this game, work wonderfully. If you listen to Resonant Arc's deep dive into Vagrant Story you will realize that a lot of the style and graphic & story/pacing decisions were due to the hardware limitations. I've beaten is yesterday and while i enjoyed it quite a bit, it really shows that the developers were wanting more than what the ps1 allowed, they did wonders with the graphics but it severely hindered other aspects of the game, there's a bunch of history pieces that are just unnexplained due to almost half of the content having to be removed, the menus are very confusing and unnintuitive too, i liked the combat system and how complex it was but on the final hours i was bored of having to stop the game and go change my weapon 2 times in a minute just to clear 1 room, it would be wonderful to see this getting a remake where they could really do what they wanted and with a better gameplay, unfortunately it's very unlikely as the game has been forgotten by Square, if only it had sold better or received more atention maybe it could happen. I see a bunch of people asking for remakes of FF9, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve and other Square games, but i barely see people talking about the game that probably most deserves a remake, Vagrant Story.
